The third episode in this series takes us to the Eastern Qing Tombs in Hebei province. The Eastern Qing Tombs is the home to two of the most famous emperors of the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Kang Qi and Emperor Qian Long, as well as Emperor Shun Zhi. Emperor Shun Zhi was the first Qing emperor to take to the throne after the Manchus took over Beijing. Although he ruled for a relatively short time, he brought unity to the people and played a big a role in stabilizing society in the early period of the Qing Dynasty.
Joey takes us deep into the heart of Emperor Shun Zhi’s tomb, exploring the Feng Shui factors of the surrounding area. Emperor Shun Zhi’s tomb is one of the oldest in the Earn Qing Tomb complex. It is also one of the largest, and served as an example for all subsequent imperial tombs after the Manchus took Beijing.
While the gorgeous sculptures and stone archways and carvings go a long way towards lending the tomb an air of opulent grandeur, as Joey explains… the true value of the place lies in its Feng Shui. The natural majestic mountains that surround the area and the river formations around it laid the foundations for the success of Emperor Shun Zhi’s son, Emperor Kang Xi.
Emperor Kang Xi’s reign of 61 years makes him one of the long-reigning Chinese emperors in history. His reign was prosperous and he brought about long-term stability and relative wealth to the nation after many prolonged years of war and tension.
