Dawn to Dusk in Frankfurt

Last update: 26 November 2010 11:06AM (GMT+08:00)
Reported by Sherwin Ng.

The cool crisp air and Illy coffee reminds me of the time I was in Athens for Feng Shui work - I used to sip coffee by the roadside café watching the sunrise (the location faced Southeast at a junction) for all the mornings I was there.

It's only 4 p.m. now but the sky already deepens into evening very quickly, precipitated perhaps by the warning for rain clouds. The autumn dry-spiny does not give an oppressive feel to Frankfurt. It does not take away the subtle buzz that came with the sunrise when the plane touched down at sunrise. It is late autumn (or has winter already begun, quietly?) and where else would you find me if not at the café of Marriot hotel, looking out into the streets trying to figure out what Frankfurt is all about?

Maybe tomorrow hints of Germany will be brought along by the students of Joey's 'Design Your Destiny' class.

***

I had never attended a translated class before.

Joey says something and the translator (our very own instructor Birgit Fischer) repeats the teachings in German. To my surprise the flow of information is not disrupted in any way - of course, Joey has done this so many times. Plus also, most of the students are quite fluent in the English language.

At night, we take a cab downtown to the Christmas market, braving the cold which gets better after some hot German spiced wine. The streets are filled not only with a conflagration of lights like a night of stars (Ding Fire!) but also masses of people, whose merriment show in the way they move, laugh, and eat. Sausage and pizza stands are everywhere, and all you can hear are people laughing and talking, not a worry in the world. One bite into that steaming hotdog filled with mustard, you too will forget the world for awhile. So desu ne - this is how Christmas actually feels like.

Jayne informs us that it has begun snowing in London. Looks like the Kingfisher is gonna get a white Christmas after all...

P.S. It just started snowing here in Frankfurt as I am sending this in to homebase.
