Plot Your BaZi (Astrology) Chart - FAQ

Question:
When I manually plot my BaZi chart using the Ten Thousand Year Calendar, the Month Stem is different from what is stated in the BaZi Ming Pan Software. Is the software incorrect or did I plot my chart wrongly?

Answer:
To avoid any confusion when you cross-reference your BaZi Ming Pan results with Joey Yap’s The Thousand Year Calendar, please take note that the Ten Thousand Year Calendar consists of three ‘types’ of calendars – the Chinese Solar and Lunar Calendar, as well as the Western (Gregorian) Calendar. This is especially important when you are reading the Month’s Stem and Branch. The dates highlighted in black, as shown in the image below, indicate the transition dates for the Chinese solar month. Following this, in some instances the Western (Gregorian) date falls in the next or previous Xia Month.

Example 1
For example, referring to the image below, a person who was born on the Western (Gregorian) date of March 2 will have to refer to the Geng Yin column (Tiger Month).

A person who is born on March 7, which is AFTER the transition date highlighted above, will refer to the Xin Mao column (Rabbit Month).

It’s always important to bear in mind that the highlighted sections for each month refer to the transition date for that specific month. For example, for the month of Mao, the transition date is March 5th. A person born on or after the 5th belongs to the Mao (Rabbit) Month Pillar. A person born before the transition date (eg. March 3rd) belongs to the previous Month Pillar, which as you can observe from the table, is Yin (Tiger). [Please note that the Chinese calendar runs from right to left.]

Example 2
In the example below, a person born on March 4 will have to refer to the Bing Yin column (Tiger Month). A person born on March 6, which is AFTER the transition date of March 5 highlighted above, will refer to the Ding Mao column (Rabbit Month).

Example 3
In the example below, a person born on the 4th of April is will have to refer to the Wu YIn column (Tiger Month). A person born on the 6th of April, which is after the transition date of April 5, will have to refer to the Ji Mao column (Rabbit Month).

The results that you obtain from using the BaZi Ming Pan always accurately reflect the correct Month Pillar. However, it is important to keep this information in mind when you cross-reference the results here with the Ten Thousand Year Calendar.
